Abstract
Od dłuższego czasu można obserwować dyskusję wokół Sprawiedliwych, która wyszła poza ramy naukowe i stała się kwestią publiczną, jeśli nie polityczną. Uhonorowani medalem przyznawanym przez Yad Vashem zostali wpisani w bitwę o pamięć, prowadzoną wokół pytania o postawy społeczeństwa polskiego pod okupacją niemiecką; służą oni jako obowiązkowy argument przy każdej możliwej okazji, kiedy pojawia się choć cień podejrzenia, że nie wszyscy Polacy pomagali Żydom i nie wszyscy mają kryształowo czystą kartę w życiorysie. Na potrzeby dyskursu publicznego naukowe wątpliwości i strefy szarości zostały zniwelowane – bitwa o pamięć jest bowiem czarno-biała. Dobrze pokazała to zeszłoroczna debata wokół lokalizacji pomnika Sprawiedliwych, w której przeciwnikom ustawienia pomnika przed Muzeum Historii Żydów Polskich przypisywano atak na samą ideę uhonorowania Polaków ratujących Żydów.
